Using WritingPAD with PebblePad and MYEPAD

If your university is part of the MYEPAD consortium — 28 universities across the Midlands, Yorkshire, and East — your students' practice assessment documents live in PebblePad. That means the last step of your WritingPAD workflow is pasting feedback into a PebblePad comment box or workbook field.

This post walks through how that works in practice, which copy format fits PebblePad best, and a few things to know if you're doing it on your phone.

The Workflow

1. Open WritingPAD on your phone or laptop.

2. Type, paste, or speak your rough assessment notes.

3. Hit Transform. WritingPAD turns your notes into structured, NMC-aligned feedback.

4. Review the output. Check it reflects your clinical judgment — especially any qualifiers ("mostly", "with prompting") that you used deliberately.

5. Copy the feedback using the Copy All button or the individual section buttons.

6. Switch to PebblePad (browser or PebblePocket app) and paste into the relevant field.

That's it. WritingPAD doesn't connect directly to PebblePad — the feedback goes through your clipboard, which means you stay in control of exactly what gets pasted.

Which Copy Format for PebblePad?

WritingPAD now offers three copy formats. For PebblePad, here's what we'd suggest:

If PebblePad gives you a single comment box per assessment point (which is the most common layout in MYEPAD workbooks): use Flowing. It produces a single clean paragraph with no labels or brackets, which drops into a text field without any stray formatting.

If you're filling in multiple fields — for example, separate boxes for strengths and areas for development: use the per-section copy buttons instead of "Copy All". Each button gives you just that section's text, ready to paste into its own field.

If you want to keep a personal copy of the feedback in your Notes app before pasting into PebblePad: use Sections. The labelled blocks are easier to scan on your phone later.

Your format choice is remembered between sessions, so you only need to set it once.

On Mobile: PebblePocket

Many assessors use PebblePocket — PebblePad's mobile app — to complete their ePADs on the go. WritingPAD runs in your phone's browser, so the workflow is: generate feedback in the browser → copy → switch to PebblePocket → paste.

WritingPAD also has a Share button that opens your phone's share sheet (the same menu you see when sharing a photo or link). This lets you send the feedback to Notes, WhatsApp, email, or any app that accepts shared text. Whether PebblePocket appears on your share sheet depends on your device and PebblePocket's share target configuration — we haven't been able to verify this yet. If you try it and it works, we'd genuinely like to know. Use the feedback thumbs below your results or drop us a note.

Even if PebblePocket doesn't appear on the share sheet, the share-to-Notes-then-copy approach is a reliable fallback: share to Notes, open PebblePocket, paste from Notes. It adds one extra step but keeps everything on your phone.

The Identifier Check

Before pasting, you'll see an amber reminder: "Check for patient identifiers before pasting into your ePAD."

WritingPAD strips NHS numbers, patient names, and similar identifiers from the output. But a quick visual scan before pasting into PebblePad is good practice — the feedback becomes part of the student's permanent record once it's in the ePAD.

Not on MYEPAD?

If your university uses a different ePAD system — MyProgress (Pan London), PARE, OPAL, ARC, or something else — the same workflow applies. The copy formats are designed to work across all ePAD systems, not just PebblePad. The format options blog post covers all three formats in detail.
